Away Day Reflections: Girton Golf Club Visits Newmarket Links

The Girton Golf Club Men's Team recently enjoyed a fantastic away day at Newmarket Links Golf Club, and what a day it was. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms by James and the Newmarket Links Men's Team, whose hospitality was as warm as the clubhouse itself.

Despite a light touch of rain in the air, the spirits remained high as we took to a course that was both beautifully presented and wonderfully challenging. Newmarket Links offered a true test of golf — tight fairways, slick greens, and some eye-catching scenery that made every hole memorable.

Capturing the day in its full glory was Matt Mee, who followed the action from tee to green with his camera. His collection of images perfectly documents the camaraderie, concentration, and shared laughs that define a great away day. From scenic wide shots to close-up moments of the day’s play, his work brings the story of our visit to life.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone at Newmarket Links for making us feel so welcome and for putting on a day to remember. It's these moments — competitive but friendly golf, played in great company on quality courses — that remind us why we love this game.

There are days at Girton Golf Club that feel almost magical – when nature, course conditions, and light align to create something truly special. Sunday, 27th April 2025, was one of those days.

Armed with a camera and a passion for showcasing Girton at its finest, I spent the day capturing the course in all its springtime splendour. From the early morning dew on the fairways to the golden glow of late afternoon sun, every angle of the course told a story of transformation, care, and natural beauty.

🌿 The Course Rejuvenated

Thanks to the tireless efforts of our brilliant greenkeeping team, Girton is looking the best it has in years. Fresh-cut greens rolled true, fairways were lush and inviting, and the signature trees that dot the landscape stood tall against a crisp blue sky. Spring has truly brought a new life to the course – and the camera couldn’t stop clicking.

Standout images include the 7th tee at sunrise, casting long shadows across the fairway; the tranquil pond beside the 5th green, reflecting the sky like glass; and the clubhouse framed in spring blooms.
